Participation in the civic engagement world refers to the process of inviting citizens to share their thoughts and opinions. There’s a lack of representation of “everyday” citizen ideas and experiences in current decision-making, and polls and other traditional methods of public participation don’t always capture the full picture of individual opinions. But participation in an deliberative engagement process, such as a Citizens Jury, can help bring out the innovation, ingenuity, and creativity of participants–leading to more representative solutions, informed people, and collaboration that last long after the Jury ends.
