It is with profound sadness that the Center for New Democratic Processes announces the death of our founder, colleague, and dear friend Ned Crosby. Ned died peacefully of complications from multiple myeloma on the evening of Sunday, May 29, 2022 in Minneapolis, MN.
Ned was the inventor of the Citizens’ Jury and one of the most compelling champions for deliberative democracy. His contributions and achievements helped establish the foundation for today’s global proliferation and widespread adoption of deliberative methods. Ned dedicated his life to pursuing a vision of democracy where decisions are guided by reason and love through Citizens’ Juries and other deliberative processes. His unceasing desire for experimentation towards the creation of a healthier democracy made him one of the most creative, innovative, and influential thinkers in the field.
Ned has been a true inspiration for countless practitioners, scholars, and advocates of deliberative democracy across the globe. He will be dearly missed by all of us whose lives he influenced professionally, those who he mentored, and those of us who were lucky to call him our friend.
On behalf of the Board of Directors and all of us here at the Center for New Democratic Processes, our deepest condolences go out to Ned’s wife (and steadfast collaborator) Pat Benn, his daughters Caroline and Lisa Crosby, and the rest of the family as they mourn Ned’s passing. The family has asked that friends direct any messages to Ned’s CaringBridge site.
With deep gratitude and appreciation,
Kyle Bozentko
