The challenge of Day 3 for the Jurors was to take the information they received on Day 2, organize and prioritize what they learned, and prepare themselves for weekend 2 of the Citizens Jury (May 18-20), when they will make their final recommendations.
In the Economic Issues committee, the group identified themes and topics that are important for policymakers to address and forthe general public to understand better. They began to focus on housing, regulation, banking/financial markets, and the federal debt/government deficit. At the same time, they began to recognize that they have different ideas about what policies are needed to address these changes. Agreeing on the questions doesn’t mean agreeing on the answers, and they’ll grapple with that in weekend 2.
The Federal Debt committee worked to organize Day 2 material, taking time to collectively understand organize all they had absorbed Saturday in written statements and more than 4 hours of presentations. They identified healthcare, macroeconomic issues and taxes as three areas they want to understand better as they prepare for making recommendations about the federal debt on weekend 2.
